Nippon Paint Marine has developed a novel hull inspection tool that negates the need for divers or remotely operated vehicles. The underwater inspection of a ship’s hull coating can now be performed by a single inspector on dry land or from a boat.
The Volvo Group and Daimler Truck AG have now a signed binding agreement for a joint venture to develop, produce and commercialize fuel-cell systems for use in heavy-duty trucks as the primary focus, as well as other applications. The ambition of both partners is to make the new company a leading global manufacturer of fuel cells, and thus help the world take a major step towards climate-neutral and sustainable transportation by 2050. The Volvo Group will acquire 50 percent of the partnership interests in Daimler Truck Fuel Cell GmbH & Co. KG for approximately EUR 0.6 billion on a cash and debt-free basis. Closing of the transaction is expected during the first half of 2021. The transaction is still subject to merger control review by relevant authorities, as well as other approvals.
Ferry company Stena Line has today announced a further expansion of their operations across the Baltic Sea region. Next year the current vessels on the Travemünde-Liepaja route will be replaced with two modern RoPax vessels, which will add a further 40 per cent freight capacity to the route, shorten the crossing time and offer a fixed timetable with 12 weekly departures. The new vessels will also offer improved onboard facilities.

In an online ceremony on October 27, Hamburg Port Authority and Tanger Med Port Authority signed a Letter of Intent to form a partnership.
ESPO congratulates the Tanger Med Port Authority (Morocco) and the Igoumenitsa Port Authority (Greece) for successfully renewing the EcoPorts’ environmental management standard (PERS). For Tanger, this is the third time they achieve the PERS certification, while it is Igoumenitsa’s fourth. Both important Mediterranean ports, they received their PERS certificates in digital handover ceremonies.

On 28 October, the European Parliament Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN) will discuss the draft own-initiative report on technical and operational measures for more efficient and cleaner maritime transport. The aim of MEP Karima Delli, Chair of the TRAN committee and rapporteur for this file, is to propose a roadmap at EU level that sets out specific technical (design) and operational measures to limit emissions from the maritime sector.
The Project team in Orchid Shipping continue to remain committed in their art of evolving bespoke logistics solutions for their patrons. Recently one of the regular customers having an ODC consignment to be shipped ex JNPT (Nhava Sheva), India to Tincan, Nigeria, approached their Project team for a solution. The cargo was a Deodorizer for an edible oil filtration plant in Nigeria. Originally, the cargo was meant to be transported as a BB parcel, primarily because of its unusual length – 2,380 cms. As soon as the inquiry was received, the team in Orchid jumped into action to deduce the best possible option both in terms of viability, feasibility, and safe handling of the cargo.
