P&O lays off 800 via video to keep company afloat

2022 03 23

P&O Ferries, a leading ferry company in the UK, has fired 800 employees through a three-minute pre-recorded video, reports NBC News.

Said a company representative: "In its current state, P&O Ferries is not a viable business. We have made a GBP100 million (US$130 million) loss year on year, which has been covered by our parent [Dubai global terminal operator] DP World."

In the footage, an unknown man declared that the company has decided to be primarily crewed by a third party crew provider.

"Therefore, I am sorry to inform you that this means your employment is terminated with immediate effect on the grounds of redundancy. Your final day of employment is today," said the company.

The news came after the company announced the cancellation of ferries crossing from Dover.
