Hanse invests in the workforce of the future

2022 02 10

Shipbroker and commercial manager Hanse Bereederung has boosted its Sale & Purchase department by announcing the appointment of Nikos Diakomichalis to its team.

Mr Diakomichalis, who was part of Hanse's apprenticeship and student programme, successfully passed the highly respected German shipping school qualification during his apprenticeship at the company. He joins a highly motivated and capable S&P team at the company's Hamburg offices.

His appointment is proof of Hanse's commitment to driving in new young talent into shipping by revitalising its apprenticeship and student programmes that has already seen more than 120 young people enter the industry.

The company, which is a member of the Cyprus-based Schoeller Holdings group of companies, is offering, together with its sister company Columbia Shipmanagement, shipping-focused training programmes for three occupations: shipping operations; office management; and information technology for system integration. Dual study programmes focused on business administration are also included.

Many of Hanse's former trainees are today's colleagues or even clients. Shipping companies around the world like to hire employees out of the German highly recognised training programmes.

According to Claudia Paschkewitz, Managing Director, during the training, the trainees/students pass through the various CSM and Hanse departments. They are closely accompanied in the process to ensure that all training content is taught, and that the potential is recognised and encouraged.

She said: "For many years I have been responsible for the training programme at CSM and Hanse Bereederung. It is exciting to accompany the development of young people, to recognise their potential and to promote it.

"I believe we have a responsibility to society, to young people and, of course, to the shipping industry. We have to train, and we have to do it well in order to have skilled employees in the future. I am proud that CSM and Hanse Bereederung are successfully taking on this task and assuming responsibility," she added.
