World oil transit chokepoints critical to global energy security: U.S. EIA

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s (www.eia.gov) new “Today in Energy” brief looks at the world’s chokepoints for shipping global crude oil supplies.

“International energy markets depend on reliable transport routes. About 63% (56.5 million barrels per day) of the world's oil production in 2013 moved on maritime routes. World chokepoints for maritime transit of oil are a critical part of global energy security because of the high volume of petroleum and other liquids transported by these routes.”---EIA

The “Today in Energy” brief was posted Monday on EIA’s website at: http://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.cfm?id=18991
